Elementary and Grade 7-9 Cross Country teams started practicing.
5 Volleyball teams were formed after tryouts…4 Junior High, 1 Senior High.
Recycling Programs started up for the year. Student volunteers, leadership students, Mrs Brewster and Mrs. Dorsey are in charge of the can and bottle recycling. Mr. Hope and his grade 4 class are in charge of the paper recycling!

We Club held first meeting of the year with many fundraising events lined up.
SUTP Coupon Book fundraiser began.
SH Girls VB team came second in their first tournament.

October 8 – Mary Lambert Fire Prevention Concert (grades K-4).
30 girls from our school went to Olds for a volleyball clinic.
October 15 – CWAJHAA Cross country run (grades 7-9).
October 16 – 2 students participated in the first Students Matter meeting of the school year.
October 22 – DCS Awards Assembly (2M sang at awards), SRO/First Responders All-Stars vs Girls High School Volleyball team fun game at lunch, Butt Ugly presentation (grades 5/6).
October 28 – Grade 5/6 CTF Photo class set up a Photo Gallery Walk, in the Commons Area, Evacuation Practice was held for entire school.
October 29 – PAC Annual General Meeting.
October 30 – Halloween! Elementary held their annual Nickel Carnival and had classroom parties at lunch, Middle School watched movies in the afternoon, High School held activities in the afternoon, MS/HS held a Costume Contest at lunch in the Large Gym.
High School held a Student Vote for grades 6-12. Students were invited to participate in a mock national Election to learn all about the voting process.
WE Club events this month: Scare Campaign collected donations for our local food bank, club members attended WE Day in Calgary.
JH Girls White Volleyball team brought home the CENAA banner and trophy.
Roots of Empathy program started this month with the grade 1 classes.

November 20 – SRO Christmas Fundraising Dinner & Dance. DCS staff donated a Christmas Wreath full of Gift Cards worth over $400.00.
November 23 – Students handed in their entries for the annual Legion Essay/Poem/Poster contest.
November 24 – Scholastic Book Fair began in the Learning Commons (Library), until December 3.
November 26 – DCS Awards Assembly, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Brooklyn’s Bake Sale, Love for Liam BBQ and bracelet sale. Also, Onematch had a display and was testing volunteers to determine whether they were bone marrow donor candidates.
Grade 9’s did a great job of running MS/HS Intramurals at lunch time.
WE Club events this month: sold Rafiki beaded bracelets for $10.00, WE are Silent…club members took a vow of silence for the day to make us aware of certain causes in the world that needed attention.
JH Girls White Volleyball team captured the CWAJHAA banner and trophy. DCS hosted the tournament!
JH Boys Volleyball team had a great season.
SH Girls Volleyball team ended their season at Zones and capture bronze medals to end a very successful season.
Basketball season began with four teams, two JH teams and two SH teams.
December 4 – High School Floor Hockey Intramurals wrapped up with our staff team winning the coveted Stanley Can. Fun was had by all teams! Middle School began their hockey tournament this week. Learning Commons started their Harry Potter Club, where Ms. Jackson and Ms. Anderson will read the Harry Potter series, every Friday at lunch.
December 3 – “Vimy 100” school trip in 2017, parent meeting. This meeting introduced the next big school trip for students and parents, to Vimy Ridge, France. Other places on trip… Amsterdam and Berlin. (We are saddened to report that our 2016/2017 trip to Vimy Ridge has been cancelled. Chinook’s Edge School Board has made the difficult decision that this International trip poses a risk to our students and staff, therefore they withdrew their support of these travel plans on January 13, 2016).
December 8 – High school students attended a theatre production of “A Christmas Carol” in Edmonton.
December 9 – High School Community Health Studies class went on a Field Trip to Red Deer, visiting the SPCA and a yoga studio.
December 11 – SADD group held its annual Charity Check Stop on Main Street.
December 12 – WE Club spent Saturday wrapping presents at the Bower Mall followed by a little Christmas shopping at a Fair Trade store. We Club members then enjoyed a meal out with family and friends!
Candy Grams were sold all week, as well as a photo day with Santa. Students could get their picture taken with Santa for $2.00.
DCS had a dress up week to get in the Christmas mood. We had Elf Day, Candy Cane Day, Reindeer Day and Crazy Christmas Sweater/Santa Hat Day. There were some great outfits wandering the halls!
December 18 – Students delivered cookies around town to all the businesses. Ms. Evan’s grade 9 Foods class baked all the cookies!
December 17 –A very festive Elementary Christmas Concert was held, with a Dress Rehearsal at 1:30pm and Evening Performance at 7:00pm. Admission was a donation to the Food Bank. We also had a Bake Sale and Homemade Christmas Decorations for sale, part of the CTF program in Middle School. Brooklyn Schlag’s Bake Sale raised close to $900. Proceeds going to support stem cell treatment for a relative.
December 18 – Elementary students got to go skating at the arena!
January 4 – Back to School!
Every Thursday in January we had a dress-up day…pyjama day, crazy clothes day, superhero day, backwards day (K-4)/gender bender day (5-12).
CTF project – during the month of January students held a “Coats for Kids” collection benefitting the Women’s Shelter and Homeless Shelter in Red Deer.
January 7 – MADD Canada Presentation in the Large Gym for grades 7-11. COLT Roadshow… staff from Delburne and Elnora Schools met with Division Office Colt Team after school, to discuss the schools path in making our students successful!
January 11 – Grade 9’s went snowshoeing in Kananaskis.
January 13 – Diploma Breakfast…before each diploma exam the grade 12’s enjoy a good breakfast together before writing the diplomas. This month all high school students wrote end of Semester PAT’s, exams or diplomas.
January 21 – Last day of Semester 1 classes for grades 9-12.
January 22 – Middle School Field Trip to Collicutt Centre.
January 29 – Semester Break! No classes for students. Collaboration/organizational day for staff.
From October to January the grade 9 Recreational Pursuits Option class organized and ran excellent lunch hour intramurals for both Middle and High School students.
February 1 – First day of Semester 2!
Grad fundraising has begun. Tickets for Beef-on-a-Bun went on sale for $25.00.
WE Club started Donut Mondays to raise money for the Red Deer SPCA.
February 2 – Phillip Massier, County Councillor, visited Ms. Galenza’s grade 6 Social Studies class.
February 3 – Winter Walk Day! Mrs. Bourne’s 7/8 girls Phys Ed class, joined by Ms. Marian’s grade 2 class enjoyed a walk through our village.
February 4 – DCS Awards were held at 1:00pm. Ember Resources Inc. was the January sponsor. My high school leadership class will be running the event. The High School leadership group organized a charity concert Thursday night, with the local group Today’s End performing in the Small Gym. The concert ran from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. The band played two sets, with an intermission. Following the concert, music was played for those wanting to dance until 10:00 p.m. Admission was $5 or a non-perishable food item. All proceeds and donations went to the Delburne Food Bank.
High School Leadership group sold roses for Valentine’s Day.
February 12 – Elementary classes went skating. Middle School held a Valentine’s Dance in the afternoon.
February 15-19 – Winter Break
February 18 & 19 – Teacher’s Convention, Calgary
February 22-25 – Grades 5-12 Curling Bonspiel. Each night had a different costume theme for the students, the last night including pizza and prizes!
February 24 – Pink Shirt Day…staff and students were asked to wear a pink shirt to promote healthy relationships and raise bullying awareness.
February 25 – DCS Awards at 9:00am. February’s sponsor was Surge Energy Inc. Monthly PAC meeting was held at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons.
February 26 – Morning Hockey Skills Session 1 was held at the arena from 7:00-8:00am. Over 40 students and helpers took part in the program (3 more sessions will be held). Breakfast was served after each session.
March 1, 2 – Grad Photos!
Mr. U's grade 3 class built musical instruments in science class with great results!
March 3 - March Madness – PJ Day!
March 4 – Aboriginal Art Club started at lunch and will continue every other week).
Basketball season wrapped up with our JH Girls team winning bronze at the CENAA tournament and moved on to the CWAJHAA. They went into the final tournament as CENAA’s #1 seed!
March 11 – March Madness – Retro Day! Grade 7 & 8 went on a Field Trip to the Calgary Science Centre.
Cigar Box Guitar Club started up with Mr. Hope. Grade 5 club on Wednesdays, grade 6 club on Thursdays.
March 17 – March Madness – wear green for St. Patrick’s Day!
March 18 – Aboriginal Art Club began and continued every other Friday at lunch.
March 21 –.Grade 3 & 4 Swimming Lessons began.
March 22 – 6 SH Basketball players were asked to play in the RDC Senior Bowl at the college.
March 22-31 – Scholastic Book Fair…another great fair with book sales exceeding our goal!
March 23 – Farm Safety Sessions (23 & 24) for grades K-6. WE Bake for Change. WE Club held a cupcake sale at lunch. Profits to go towards ending world hunger.
March 24 – Last March Madness – Jersey Day. SRO Annual Hockey Game at the arena. DCS Awards at hockey game intermission. Parent/Teacher Conferences and Fun Fair (Book Fair, Movie, popcorn and elephant ears for sale, student Cordell and friends acoustic performance, yearbooks and Harvest Gym memberships for sale) at the school from 3:30-8:00pm.
March 30 – Grade 6 Field trip to the Legislature in Edmonton.
March 31 – PAC meeting at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons.
April 3 & 4 – High School Ski trip to Lake Louise. Weather was great and staff and students had a wonderful time!
April 5 – School bus evacuation drill. Grade 6 visited the Indoor Planetarium set up in the Small gym.
April 11-14 – Chess Tournament was held in the Learning Commons, for grades 5-12. Munsch It Up performance was held in the Small Gym for grades K-4.

April 11-15 – Bamfield Marine Biology trip to Vancouver Island. Students stayed overnight in Victoria, had a tour of the city, then headed by bus up the coast to the Bamfield Marine Biology Centre to study marine life.
April 12 – SH Badminton team Areas held in Sylvan. They competed in 3 tournaments during the season.
April 18-22 – Spring Break
April 27 - DCS Travel Club Meeting to discuss Spring 2017 trip to Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto. Parents/students interested in going met at 7:00pm in the Learning Commons.
April 28 – High School Field Trip to RDC Career Expo in Red Deer. DCS Awards sponsored by Surge Energy Inc. PAC Meeting was held today at 6:30pm.
April 29 – 2016 Grad Class held their fundraising dinner/silent auction/hypnotist entertainment. The night was full of laughter and we had another great meal and successful silent auction.
Grades 7-9 Badminton Team had their first tournament in Olds, Alberta. Shianna Duda brought home a bronze medal!
April was National Poetry Month so the learning Commons held a Book Spine Poetry Contest. Lots of great poetry was created by using the titles on the spines of books, which were stacked.
May 2 - The Grade 8 parents were invited to lend their knowledge (and tools) to help complete the construction of this year's Soapbox Derby race cars. Bus driver Appreciation Day…Leadership students made cards and collected signatures from bus students to give to each bus driver.
May 4 – Elementary Talent Show auditions started and continued until the show, May 13th.
May 5 – Grades 7-12 went to see West Side Story at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton. Emergency Open House was held in the Small Gym with displays and demonstrations for the students. Welcome to Kindergarten Orientation was held in the Learning Commons at 7:00pm. The upcoming kindergarten students took part in many activities and each went home with a goody bag.
May 6 – Grade 7-9 CENAA Badminton Tournament.
May 7 – PAC Annual Plant Sale from 9:00am-12:00pm. Available plants for sale: 11” hanging plants for $25, 12” planters for $30. A few of our grade 4 &5 students attended the annual Young Writer’s Conference in Red Deer.
May 13 – Grade 7/8 Field Trip to Science Camp at RDC and Soap Box supply buying at Canadian Tire! Elementary Talent show was held in the Small Gym at 2:00pm. There were 14 entries from grades 1-4.
May 16 – Fort McMurray Fire Fundraiser began until May 19th and on the19th we held “wear a hat in school for a loonie”. Students vs Staff – the group raising the least amount of money would have to present a group to dye their hair orange. P.S. Staff lost, so some of the male teachers volunteered to dye their beards orange. Money raised was over $1500!
May 18 – SH Track Meet in Red Deer.
May 25 – SH Zones Track & Field Meet in Camrose, Grad rehearsal at hall.
May 26 – DCS Awards sponsored by Serge Energy Inc. at 1:00pm, Staff & Student Ball Game at 2:15pm, PAC Meeting at 6:30pm.
May 27 – Grade 5/6 went on a Food Truck Field Trip to Red Deer to see how food trucks operate, Grad 2016 Commencement Ceremonies.
June 1 - Ghost Ryders held their first Bike, Scooter and Skateboard Competition at the Delburne Skatepark! Twenty competitors from 6 CESD schools attended. Joe Whitbread (voice of the Red Deer Rebels) come out to M/C and rocked on with some great tunes!
June 2 – ECS Field Trip to Safety City in Red Deer.
June 3, 4 – HS Track & Field Provincials, Foote Field, Edmonton. Taylor Adams won 2nd in Discus.
June 5 – We Club took part in the Red Deer River Clean Up, in Red deer.
June 6 – JH CENAA Track Meet.
June 7 – Track Meet in Stettler.
June 8, 9 – Grade 6 went to Pioneer Ranch Camp!
June 9 – Soap Box Derby Parent & Sponsor Night was held in the small gym. All the cars were on display and treats/refreshments were served!
June 10 – Grade 5/6 CTF held the Food Truck Friday event in the Large Gym. Ten plywood truck cut-outs were set up and the students sold a variety of delicious items at lunch. Grade 7/8 CTF held the 2nd Annual Soap Box Derby just north of the Main Street Park. It was an exciting afternoon full of thrills and spills!
June 13 – Elementary/Middle School Field Day. Had a beautiful day for our outdoor activities! Held a Parent Information Meeting (7:00-8:00pm) in the Learning Commons for parents to learn about changes in the coming school year.
June 14 – Grade 4 Field Trip to the Markerville creamery, Hola School and Stephannson House.
June 15 – Village Clean Up…K-8 students headed out throughout the village at 2:00pm, to help clean up garbage. They finished up with an ice cream treat courtesy of the Village of Delburne.
June 16 – Grade 9 Outdoor Ed went on a hiking trip to Barrier Lake in Kananaskis Country.
June 17 – Grade 1’s went on a field Trip to the Calgary Zoo. Grade 10 Phys. Ed Class went on a hike to Colisseum Mountain by Nordegg.
June 20 – Middle School Awards at 6:30pm in the Small Gym.
June 21 – ECS Field Trip to Discovery Wildlife Park in Innisfail. School wide assembly at 3:00pm to acknowledge all the work and thank all the staff leaving us this year. Book signed by each staff and student was presented to ECS teacher, Marj Bysterveld, who is retiring after 31 years of teaching in Delburne.
June 23 – Grades 1-4 went swimming in the afternoon in Stettler.
June 24 – Grade 3 Field Trip to Atlas Coal Mine, East Coulee (SE of Drumheller), Elementary classes made use of the Spray Park during the nice weather.
June 27 – Grade 2 Field Trip to Sunnybrook Farm Museum and Kerry Wood Nature Centre, Grade 5 field trip to Rocky Mountain National Historic Site.
June 28 – Students last day of school…early dismissal at 11:40pm!
